The Accidental Rockstar

The Accidental Rockstar is a music-documentary telling the story of the iconic rock band, Kaizers Orchestra, through band member Helge Risa – the “man with a gas mask.”  We follow the band backstage as they are about to perform at the Opera. On their way to the stage, Helge is separated from the others and finds himself in a fictional universe. He travels through the different albums in Kaizers history – leading us to different chapters of documentary material told through cinematic expression inspired by the band. On this journey we get a glimpse of a small part of the Norwegian rock history – from Kaizers’ humble beginning in a practice room at the Teachers’ College to sold out concerts at the opera 12 years later

Drawing inspiration from the band’s own aesthetic, this film blurs the boundary between reality and fantasy, incorporating staged scenes and elaborate sets with fly-on-the-wall documentary and archive footage.  In The Accidental Rockstar, Helge is trapped in a universe he helped to create.

The film is supported by The Norwegian Film Institute and Eastern Norway Film Centre… and you?
